Prepare your Visit

To prepare for class visits, La Criée schedules a season presentation at the beginning of the school year and on the first Wednesdays of each new exhibition, at 2:00 PM. These meetings are accessible by registration (childcare is possible). They are communicated via information letters from DSDEN35, DRAEAC, DDEC35, or by email upon request.

Pedagogical resources are accessible from our website, including artist biographies, alphabets, bibliographies, workshop ideas to extend the visit in class, etc.

To help you build a path, two advisory teachers for secondary education are detached by the Academy of Rennes at La Criée and the Museum of Fine Arts:

From La Criée to Rennes' Museum of Fine Arts

With the help of teacher-advisors for La Criée and Rennes' Museum of Fine Arts, thematic paths « contemporary art and heritage » can be proposed in connection with our art program and Rennes' Museum of Fine Arts' permanent collection.

Artistic and Cultural Education Projects

On the basis of its artistic programme, La Criée works with teaching teams from schools in Rennes and the Ille-et-Vilaine département to develop projects based on the three pillars of artistic and cultural education :
-- Knowledge of the works and learning about art history
-- Encounters with the artists and their work
-- And artistic practice to enable students to take part in sensitive experiences and develop their expression, creativity and critical thinking.

EAC projects are aimed primarily at schools in Rennes, collèges situated in priority education networks, technical, vocational and agricultural lycées, regional special education establishments (EREA) and rural family centers.
They are defined a year in advance, in partnership and depending on the project, with the support of the Ministère de la Culture - Drac Bretagne, the Académie de Rennes (DSDEN35 and DRAEAC), the Région Bretagne - KARTA, the Département d'Ille-et-Vilaine and the Ville de Rennes.
A partnership agreement is signed for each project, setting out the commitments of the art center and the school.

Pairings

Pairings are a form of partnership between the art center and a school, developed over a period corresponding to the thematic cycles of the art center. They are a follow on from the Correspondences program, and include times to present the art center in the classroom, visits to exhibitions and practical art sessions with a guest artist.

Duration: 2 to 3 years, with a minimum of 20 hours of artistic practice per class.

Artist residencies

Since 2008, La Criée has been working with artists in residence on projects combining research, creation and transmission. Residencies in schools combine the art center's missions of supporting artists and producing works with artistic and cultural education, enabling students to take part in an artistic creation process.
The residencies may involve several classes, combined with times for exhibition visits, cultural discovery and artistic practice. These projects provide an ideal framework for working on cross-curricular educational themes with teachers, parents, families and other local stakeholders.

Duration: the residency lasts for one school year, with a minimum of 20 to 30 hours of artistic practice per class, combined with 30 hours of research and production for the artist in residence.
