Exhibitions outside the walls

In residence in July 2022 at the women's prison in Rennes, Thomas Gaugain shared his knowledge and skills with the inmates, creating textile and embroidered objects. The exhibition at the Hôtel Pasteur is the culmination of this exchange, which was interrupted because of Covid.

About

From intimate stories, wishes, or dreams, the inmates imagined textile objects that they could keep or give as gifts. To restore the fictional potential of these objects, Thomas Gaugain proposed that they create "augmented" versions of their creations. The presence of their gestures is conveyed in a film, made with Jennifer Aujame, projected through the veils used during the workshops, with music by Rémi Mango, also known as Tomi Marx.

The exhibition is accompanied by a text – an interview between Thomas Gaugain and Pierre Ruault, art historian and critic.
